Custom Greaseproof Paper is the sheet you reach for when oil is guaranteed. Fried chicken, loaded fries, smash burgers, all of them defeat ordinary paper within minutes, leaving a translucent patch where your logo used to be. We treat these sheets so oil stays on the food side, keeping the print sharp and your customers’ hands clean. Choose silicone-treated for maximum resistance or a compostable alternative where plastic-free matters. As a packaging company supplying fryer-heavy kitchens nationwide, we match grammage to your menu instead of selling one weight to everyone. Request free samples before ordering.

Custom Greaseproof Paper: Built for the Foods That Ruin Ordinary Wrap

There’s a simple test that separates greaseproof paper from regular paper: wrap a hot piece of fried chicken, wait ten minutes, and look at the outside. Standard paper goes translucent, then soft, then your printed logo disappears into an oil stain. Custom Greaseproof Paper exists to stop that at the surface.

What Actually Makes Paper Greaseproof

Two different mechanisms produce grease resistance, and they behave differently in a kitchen.

Silicone treatment applies a thin release layer that oil cannot penetrate. It delivers the highest resistance available, works on one or both faces, and adds non-stick performance as a bonus. This is the standard specification for fryer output.

Fiber refinement takes a mechanical route instead, beating the pulp until fibers pack tightly enough that oil has no path through. No coating is involved, which makes the sheet fully compostable. Resistance is genuinely good, though it will not match silicone under prolonged heat.

Neither option is universally better. It depends on whether your priority is maximum barrier performance or a plastic-free specification.

One Side or Two?

This decision affects your cost more than most buyers expect, and it is worth getting right.

Single-side treatment works when the paper only ever touches food on one face, basket liners, tray sheets, or anything sitting flat under the product. Double-sided treatment is necessary when the sheet wraps fully around an item, because oil will otherwise migrate to the untreated exterior and defeat the purpose entirely.

We ask about your wrapping technique before quoting, since specifying double-sided treatment for a flat liner is money spent on a barrier that never gets used.

Choosing the Right Weight

Grammage is where menus diverge. A lightweight sheet around 38–40gsm folds easily and suits burger wraps and lighter items. Heavier stock in the 50–60gsm range holds up under wet, saucy loads without tearing when a customer picks it up.

The failure most operators run into is going too light to save cost, then finding the sheet tears at the fold once the sauce soaks in. Send us your heaviest menu item, and we will spec to that, not to the average.

Where Greaseproof Sits Among Our Other Papers

Greaseproof handles oil. It is not the answer to every wrapping problem, and it is worth knowing where the boundaries fall.

For oven work, Custom Parchment Paper is the correct grade, since its heat rating goes considerably higher. When you want the product partially visible through the wrap, Custom Glassine Paper delivers grease resistance with a smooth, semi-translucent finish. Cold cuts and cheese counters are better served by Custom Deli Paper, and for anything heading into long-term freezer storage, Custom Freezer Paper carries the moisture barrier that greaseproof does not.

Where greaseproof genuinely excels is fryer-adjacent service, which is why it pairs naturally with Custom Food Basket Liners for tray presentation and Custom Fry Paper for cone and scoop formats.

Printing on a Treated Surface

Printing on greaseproof requires a specific approach, because a silicone-treated surface resists ink adhesion for the same reason it resists oil. We print before treatment or use inks formulated for coated stock, depending on your run.

Water-based and soy-based food-safe inks are standard in 1-color, 2-color, or full CMYK with Pantone matching. Bold, high-contrast artwork survives grease contact better than fine detail, so simple logo treatments generally outperform intricate designs on this substrate.

How It Fits Your Wider Setup

Fryer operations typically line Custom Food Boats with greaseproof sheets and use the same printed stock inside Custom Pizza Boxes to control base grease. Delis running both hot and cold service usually order greaseproof alongside Custom Sandwich Paper, so one print design covers the full menu.

Matching your paper to your custom food packaging keeps the whole handoff looking deliberate rather than assembled from whatever was in stock. Request a free quote and physical samples for your Custom Greaseproof Paper, and we will confirm the coating type and grammage against your actual menu first.
