Stock that is too heavy resists the curve and sits proud at the edges. Stock that is too light saturates under a heavy fried portion and tears when staff clear the table. The workable range sits in the middle, and the right point depends on whether you are serving dry items or something wet and loaded.

Because only one face contacts food, single-side treatment is sufficient here, which makes liners meaningfully cheaper per sheet than the double-treated stock needed for wraps.

The liner is the flat visual field in every photograph a customer takes of their meal, which makes it the highest-value print surface at the table. It is also the surface most obscured by food.

The reliable approach is a border treatment combined with a light repeating pattern; your mark stays readable around the perimeter regardless of how the portion sits, while the pattern fills the center without competing. Bold single-color artwork on natural stock holds up better under grease than fine multi-color linework. Water-based and soy-based food-safe inks are standard.
